Why is my recording “retrying automatically”?

If a recording shows We’ll retry automatically (or Retrying soon in your library), nothing is wrong with the recording. A service we use to transcribe or summarize was unavailable when it was processed, and Noteary will finish it on its own.

What happened

Noteary relies on AI providers for transcription and summaries. Occasionally one of them is unavailable on our side for a while. When that happens, recordings that were processing are set aside instead of being marked as failed.

  • Your audio is safe. It’s already stored; only the processing is waiting.
  • If only the summary is waiting, your transcript is already there to read and search.

What to do

Nothing. Noteary checks every few minutes whether the service is back, then finishes waiting recordings automatically — in the order they arrived — and they appear in your library as usual.

There’s also a small Retry now link if you’d rather not wait. While the service is still down it can only be set aside again, so there’s no need to keep pressing it. A retry never counts as a new recording.

“This didn’t finish during a service outage”

Automatic retries stop after about three days. If a recording is still waiting by then, it says it didn’t finish during a service outage and shows a Try again button. Your recording is still safe — press it to process it now.

“We couldn’t read this recording” or “Can’t process”

This one is different: the transcription service rejected the file itself, so retrying the same file won’t help and no automatic retry is scheduled. Usually the file is damaged, silent, or in a format that didn’t convert cleanly. Try exporting it again from the app that made it (MP3, M4A, WAV and MP4 work well) and uploading the new copy.

If that still fails, email support@noteary.app with the recording’s title and we’ll take a look.
