Prep for a meeting with a brief from your past calls

Before a meeting, the useful question is “what happened last time?”. A prep brief answers it from your own recordings: earlier conversations with the same people or about the same subject, what was decided, what’s still open, and a few talking points — each citing the recording it came from.

Set it up

  1. Connect Google Calendar in Settings → Integrations.
  2. Your next few meetings then appear on the Record screen, each with Record and Prep buttons.
  3. Select Prep to open that meeting’s brief.

What’s in a brief

  • A short summary of where things stand.
  • Talking points — three to five things worth raising.
  • Last time — what was discussed and decided in the most relevant earlier conversations.
  • Still open — action items involving the people you’re meeting.
  • From your recordings — the conversations the brief drew on. Each opens at the matching passage.

How it finds the right recordings

The brief looks for earlier recordings with the same attendees — people you’ve named as speakers, people mentioned in summaries, and owners of action items — and for recordings on the same subject, using the meeting’s title, the attendees’ company and earlier meetings in the same series.

Two things make it noticeably better: naming speakers in your recordings (so “Speaker 2” becomes a real person it can match), and giving recurring meetings a consistent title.

Keeping it fresh

A brief is rebuilt when the meeting changes on your calendar, and at least every few hours. Select Refresh to rebuild it now — after recording another call with the same people, for example. If Google Calendar can’t be reached, you’ll see the last brief built for that meeting, with a note saying so.

Plans

Prep briefs are available on every plan. On Pro, Business and Teams the brief is written by AI across your whole library. On Free the brief is assembled directly from your saved summaries — the same sources, open items and citations, with simpler talking points drawn from those open items and past decisions. See Pricing.

Prep briefs currently work with Google Calendar only.
